I’m Betty, Aviva’s founder. By personal conviction I shifted towards a plant-based diet, but I found the cheese alternatives in the market didn’t meet my needs in terms of nutrition and sustainability.
I was missing a healthy, natural and nutritious alternative that I would like my children to eat. A product that allowed people who don’t eat dairy and also those with nut allergies, to have an easy, delicious and sustainable way to get nutrition while experiencing the pleasure of cheese.
I had the idea of making a cheese alternative made from pulses (chickpeas, beans, lentils) and seeds. Pulses, a common food in my country of origin, Venezuela, are sustainable Canadian crops. I looked for help from food science students to make this idea a reality for health-conscious and environmentally-conscious people like me. I’m sure you will love them!
